One Year Pediatric Hospitalist Fellowship 2011-2012 Overview
Eastern Virginia Medical School and the Children‘s Hospital of The King’s Daughters, a 212-bed, free-standing, full-service pediatric hospital located in southeast Virginia, are proud to announce the availability of a one-year position as a Pediatric Hospitalist Fellow beginning July 1, 2011. This will be part of an ambitious pediatric hospitalist program, offering great opportunities for leadership and scholarship development. Emphasis is placed on providing high-quality, safe clinical care, as well as encouraging multidisciplinary teamwork and outcomes management. A 20-per-year residency program and a close affiliation with Eastern Virginia Medical School ensure great teaching and mentoring opportunities.
Norfolk is known for its proximity to Atlantic Ocean beaches and inlets, providing world-class fishing, boating and other outdoor activities. Shenandoah Valley is a short drive, and the community has exciting cultural events and opportunities. The hospital referral base in Hampton Roads is nearly 2 million people, and the hospital serves as the heart of a wide-spread, integrated, community-based child health system.

One Year Pediatric Hospitalist Fellowship 2011-2012 Curriculum
* Ward service: 20 weeks on-service, at least 1/2 supervised (12-14 weekends)
* Other Clinical Activities: 8 weeks (2 or 4 week rotations)
o Observation Unit
o Sedation/Anesthesia
o PICC
o Transport
o Chronic/Institutional Care (Pines, St. Mary’s, Lake Taylor)
o Pain
* Non-clinical / Scholarly / Admin: 15 weeks
o Research Project through IRB
o Poster Presentation 2012 PHM and / or AAP
o One Grant Application
o Active Involvement in Resident / Medical Student Education One
o QI / Safety Project
* Approved Elective: 4 weeks (ie: toxicology, Child Protection, Respiratory Care, Rehab, Pharmacy, Lab, pathology, Sub-specialty, Admin, PICU / NICU, ED)
* CME: 1 week
* Vacation: 4 weeks
Requirements (by July 1, 2011):
o ACLS, PALS, NRP, BLS
o IRB Certification
o Virginia License
o Provider Numbers with Insurance Companies
